Interviewer: Today I'm interviewing Professor Peter Singer, Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics at the University Center for Human Values, Princeton University. On how and why effective altruism should be an important and enduring philosophy for the business community. Listeners, we expect you to have read Professor Singer's article of 23rd November 2022 in Project Syndicate: "Has the FTX Debacle Discredited Effective Altruism?" Before listening to this interview. Professor Singer, thank you for taking the time for the interview. Framing the subject are two questions. One: Why should effective altruism be an important and enduring philosophy for the business community? Two: If it is, how should it be implemented, Professor Singer? Prof. Singer: Effective altruism should be an enduring philosophy for the business community because the business community consists of individuals and I believe individuals should always be thinking about how they can contribute to making the world a better place. So, I think that doing that, there is improving the well-being of all of those affected by our actions, is something that all of us should want to do if we are going to live an ethical life and If we want to be satisfied that we've done that and feel fulfilled with what we are doing in the world.
