Hello. Happy to be
with you today.
My name is Sten Vermund.
I serve as President of the
Global Virus Network and I'm
also a professor in
the Yale School of Public Health
in Yale School of Medicine.
Today, we'll talk about
the Global Virus Network
as a collaborative group
addressing pandemic
and regional threats
in the field of viral diseases.
0:28
There's a 13 year history of
the Global Virus Network as
a voluntary consortium
of virus fighters.
We are currently engaged with
78 laboratories and centers
of excellence and
affiliate centers
in 41 countries on
six continents.
0:50
We declared our
utility and mission in
March of 2011 representing
centers of excellence for
research and virology,
dedicated to
understanding, preventing,
and eradicating viral diseases.
We're all about getting
programs to coordinate,
support and promote research.
We're interested in the
public health aspects of
virology including
surveillance and
implementation of programs.
We are trying new
approaches to foster
collaboration across
centers and countries
and continents.
Trying to improve
immediate responses
to emerging viral threats,
training future generations of
virologists, and
advising governments,
policymakers, non-governmental
organizations
on viral disease threats
and their control.
We are seeking to
fill a need to bridge
across nations in
this consultative and
facilitative role.
