Interviewer: Today, I'm interviewing Prof. Bhaskar Chakravorti, dean of global business and professor of the practice of international business at the Fletcher Graduate School of Global Affairs, Tufts University, USA. A link to Prof. Chakravorti's biography accompanies this interview. The subject is the implications of Prof. Chakravorti's article in Harvard Business Review published on 8th of May 2025 titled: How companies can mitigate the harms of AI-driven inequality. Listeners are expected to have read the article before listening. Prof. Chakravorti, thank you for sparing the time. In your article, you make clear that it's not to be expected at least in the United States that government regulation will require businesses to do what you believe should be done. What was not clear to me is what part of what you think businesses should do, will be done because it will improve profitability and what part they should do as, so to speak, good citizens? I know that you gave some individual examples where companies could do things in their own interests. But in terms of the overall package of required action, how much can we rely on the driver of profit and how much are we left hoping for good citizenship? Prof. Chakravorti. Prof. Chakravorti: Thank you for having me.
