Biography
Emma Thomson is professor of infectious diseases at the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research and clinical professor of emerging viral infections at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. She trained in medicine and infectious diseases in Glasgow and London and carried out her PhD at Imperial College London and Oxford University. Her laboratory uses next generation sequencing methods to detect new and emerging viruses in Uganda and the UK. She has worked on a number of viral infections including hepatitis C, Ebola virus, emerging rhabdoviruses in Uganda, CCHF and most recently SARS-CoV-2. She is a member of the COG-UK steering committee, the UK Vaccine Update Expert Advisory Group, Wellcome Genome Campus Advanced Courses and Scientific Conferences (ACSC) Clinical Advisory Panel and has worked for WHO as an external consultant.
