Biography
Dr. Katia Koelle is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Emory University. She completed her doctoral studies at the University of Michigan (2005) and her post-doctoral studies at the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics at the Pennsylvania State University. Her research investigates the underlying evolutionary and population dynamic factors contributing to the spread of viral infectious diseases at the within-host and host population levels. Her research program relies on the use of quantitative approaches, including mathematical and computational modeling, as well as phylogenetic and statistical analysis of viral sequence data. One main research question that her group has targeted focuses on the role that rapid evolutionary changes of viral pathogens play in driving patterns of disease spread through human populations.
