Biography
Dr. Changchun Liu is an associate professor in the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Connecticut Health Center (UConn Health). He received his Ph.D. in Physical Electronics at the Institute of Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IECAS), China. After completing his postdoc training at the University of Pennsylvania, he was appointed as a research assistant professor in 2012. He became research associate professor in 2017 and lead his own laboratory. In 2018, he moved his laboratory to UConn Health. He has a highly interdisciplinary background and training spanning Engineering (i.e., electronic, mechanical), Chemistry, and Biomedicine. His current research interests primarily include the development of novel CRISPR-based nucleic acid detection, microfluidic chips, and smartphone-based portable detection systems with a focus on point-of-care (POC) diagnostics of infectious diseases (e.g., COVID-19, HIV, ZIKV). He is a recipient of the NIH Career Development Award (K25) in 2012-2017, the Penn One Health Award in 2015, and the W.W. Smith Charitable Trust Research Award in 2016.
