I'm Maria Alessandra Sotgiu. I am a researcher at the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Sassari in Italy. The focus of this presentation will be the anatomy of the nose and the pterygopalatine fossa.

After a short introduction to the classification of nasal shapes and the function of the nose, I'll describe the external nose and the nasal cavity in detail. Firstly, I'll show the structure of the external nose, including the bone, cartilaginous skeleton, muscles, vascular and nervous supply. Then, I'll talk about the nasal cavity structure, describing the skeletal walls, the vascular and nervous supply. In the end, I'll describe the structure of the pterygopalatine fossa.

The nose is the first part of the upper respiratory tract and it is a complex three-dimensional organ characterized by variations in nasal shape and form. It plays an important role in facial recognition. For this reason, it is also important for both forensic and surgical craniofacial reconstruction.
