Hello, my name is Luis Andrade. I am an Associate Professor at Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo in Brazil. I am also a medical consultant in immunology at Fleury Laboratory and the Chair of the Quality Assessment and Standardization Committee at IUIS. Today, we're going to talk about pathogenic mechanisms of autoantibodies.

In this lecture, I will show how autoantibodies have been instrumental to the establishment of the concept of autoimmunity and to the shaping of the clinical spectrum of several autoimmune diseases. Then I will explore the possible reasons for the tight association between autoantibodies and autoimmune diseases. Finally, I will explore the several mechanisms by which autoantibodies play a pathogenic role.
