Biography

Luis Andrade attended the Federal University of Minas Gerais, in Belo Horizonte, and obtained his Medical Degree in 1980. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology in 1984 at São Paulo University and his PhD in 1987 at the Federal University of São Paulo. From 1989 to 1991,... read morehe worked as a post-doctoral fellow under supervision of Eng M Tan at the Scripps Research Institute. Since 1988, he has been Professor of Medicine in the Rheumatology Division at the Federal University of São Paulo. His main interest is autoimmune diseases, with particular emphasis on the many roles of autoantibodies in autoimmunity, including the genesis of autoantibodies, how autoantibodies are related to the pathophysiology of diseases and their applications as tools for the clinical management of patients. He has been very active at the International Union of Immunology Societies (IUIS), where he held the position of Chair of the Autoantibody Standardization Committee from 2011 to 2015, and currently holds the position of Chair of the Quality Assessment and Standardization Committee.
