Hello, I am Gina
Touch Mercer, PhD,
psychologist and director of
the behavioral and social
sciences curriculum at
the University of Arizona
College of Medicine, Phoenix.
Welcome to part
two of the talk on
healthy human development
across the lifespan.
As part of the Behavioral
Medicine Series.
0:24
Part one included explanations
of the major psychosocial
concepts and
key theories of human
development and
their applications to infants,
children and adolescents.
Today I will resume
the discussion of
healthy human development
across the lifespan
highlighting the major
theories and concepts with
widest applications focusing on
all stages of adult development.
I will again offer
several patient examples to
illustrate the major concepts
and theories of human
development and
highlight the relevance to
general medical practice,
research and several
medical specialties.

Our learning objectives for
the talk called part
two of the talk on
healthy human development across
the lifespan are, number one,
to understand and
apply theories and
foundational concepts
of human development to
patient examples across
the lifespan with
the focus on all stages
of adult development.
Number two, to articulate
several developmental
influences that physicians,
researchers and all
healthcare providers should
consider and address to enhance
patient health outcomes.
Number three, to identify
specific physician behaviors and
communication that
promote positive patient,
family, physician relationships
and in turn, impact
patient health.
