Biography
Dawn C. Buse Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist who specializes in helping people live well with chronic diseases including migraine, other headache diseases, and chronic pain. She is a Clinical Professor of Neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Health Psychology Doctoral Program of Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, and was the Director of Behavioral Medicine at the Montefiore Headache Center in New York City from 2006-2018. She is a member of several committees and special interest sections of the American Headache Society and the American Academy of Neurology and served as a Board Member at Large for the American Headache Society from 2015-2022.
Dr. Buse conducts research on migraine, pain, and the impact of living with chronic diseases. She is a co-investigator on the American Migraine Prevalence and Prevention (AMPP) Study, the Chronic Migraine Epidemiology and Outcomes (CAMEO) Study, the Migraine Signature Study (MSS), the International Burden of Migraine (IBMS) Study, the Migraine, Symptoms, and Treatment in America (MAST) Study, the OVERCOME Study and the Migraine Clinical Outcome Assessment System (MiCOAS) (US FDA) grant. She has around 200 scientific publications and has won eight US and international research awards and three professional awards for her work. Manuscripts she has co-authored have won the American Headache Society’s “Wolff Award” twice (2008 and 2018), the Italian Society for the Study of Headache’s “Enrico Greppi Award” twice (2009 and 2017), the British Medical Journal’s “Patient’s Choice Award”, and the “Headache Reader’s Choice” Award twice (2015 and 2019). In 2009 she won the National Headache Foundation, "Partners in Excellence" Award, in 2016 she won the American Headache Society “Seymour Solomon” Award and in 2020 she won the AHS “Above and Beyond Award”.
Dr. Buse is the section editor for the “Nonpharmacologic issues and treatments in migraine, headache, and pain” section of Current Pain and Headache Reports. Dr. Buse is an active patient advocate.
