Biography
Ankit Bharat is the Harold L. and Margaret N. Method Professor of Surgery, Chief of Thoracic Surgery, and Director of Lung Transplantation at Northwestern University. Trained at Christian Medical College (India) and Washington University in St. Louis, he completed residencies and fellowships in surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, and research. At Northwestern, he specializes in advanced thoracic diseases, offering treatments such as lung transplantation, ECMO, and minimally invasive approaches to thoracic malignancies. His research focuses on transplant immunobiology and lung injury, using tools like single-cell transcriptomics, proteomics, and intravital imaging to identify mechanisms of immune responses. His lab bridges clinical and basic science, translating discoveries from models of lung disease to patient care.
