Interviewer: Today, I'm interviewing Professor Yasheng Huang, Epoch Foundation Professor of International Management and Professor of Global Economics and Management at MIT Sloan School of Management, USA. The subject is the possible, I emphasize possible, economic decline of the People's Republic of China. Listeners are expected to have read Professor Huang's article, China's Economic Slowdown Was Inevitable. The Illusory Success of State Capitalism published in Foreign Affairs on 25th of September 2023 before listening to this interview. If they have also read his book The Rise and Fall of the East: How Exams, Autocracy, Stability and Technology Brought China Success and Why They Might Lead to Its Decline published by Yale University Press in 2023 so much the better.
