Good morning. My name is Elizabeth Smart. I am the Airport Safety Management System Coordinator at St. Louis Lambert International Airport. I'm going to speak on SMS: A Road Map for Success.

Implementing a Safety Management System or SMS at your airport means, at minimum, changing processes and at a maximum, changing mindsets, organizational norms, and culture. This much change can be overwhelming, with management finding it hard to implement and rank and file employees finding it hard to accept. However, this formalized approach to safety can assist airport executives and their managers to recognize the early warning signs of hazardous situations that might otherwise be overlooked.
