This talk introduces senses,
vision, and the eye,
using it as a basis for
further exploration
of the anatomy of the eye,
including its three
main layers and
their functions and how light
is focused for clear vision.
We will examine how the
retina's photoreceptors
convert light into neural
signals transmitted
to the brain,
enabling perception and
interpretation of
our surroundings.
The lecture will also discuss
the neural pathways
involved in vision,
including the crossing
of visual information
at the optic chiasm.
Finally, we will highlight
common vision disorders
such as myopia, hyperopia,
cataracts and glaucoma,

eye health and regular exams.
Today, we focus on vision
and the remarkable
structure of the eye.
Vision is often our
foremost sense,
letting us perceive and
interpret the world.
The eye is a complex
globe shaped organ
seated in the bony orbit for
protection and movement.
It has three main layers,
the outer fibrous coat,
the middle vascular coat,
and the innermost sensory coat.
The retina, as the
innermost layer,
sends visual signals via the
optic nerve to the brain.
The primary function
of the eye is to
focus light sharply onto the
retina for clear vision.
Light passes through the cornea,
which provides most
refractive power.
The aqueous humor fills
the space between
the cornea and lens,
which the ciliary
body holds in place.
The lens shape changes a
process called accommodation
to focus on near
or distant objects
