Following session will cover central nervous system, focusing on the basic anatomy of the central nervous system, distinguishing its two main components, the brain and spinal cord and their protective structures. We will explore the key regions of the brain, their specialized functions, and how the CNS integrates sensory input, coordinates responses, and enables higher cognitive abilities. Additionally, the presentation will explain the mechanisms of neural communication, CNS protection, and homeostatic regulation. Finally, we will discuss the critical role of the CNS in controlling physiological functions and its impact on human behavior and health. Let us begin by considering the fundamental structure of the central nervous system or CNS. It consists of two main components, the brain and spinal cord, both housed within protective bony encasements. The brain occupies the cranial cavity, while the spinal cord extends down the vertebral column. Together, they form the body's core information hub, processing sensory data, coordinating movement, and enabling higher cognitive functions. Unlike the peripheral nervous system, the CNS serves as the main processing center, a crucial distinction for understanding information flow and regulation. Within the brain, three major divisions can be identified the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem.
