In this talk, we turn our attention to common pregnancy complications, emphasizing their medical, metabolic and structural origins, and the importance of early recognition and effective management. We will discuss gestational diabetes, pre eclampsia, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, placental disorders, intrauterine growth restriction, and other conditions such as hyperemesis gravidarum, anemia, and pre term labor. Special attention will be given to the impact of these complications on maternal and fetal health, as well as strategies for intervention and prevention. Finally, we will highlight the need for multidisciplinary care and tailored approaches to improve pregnancy outcomes. Pregnancy is a remarkable physiological process, but can be complicated by various medical, metabolic, and structural challenges. Understanding these complications is crucial for prompt recognition, intervention and prevention. Some are influenced by health conditions, lifestyle or genetics, while others arise unexpectedly. This overview explores common pregnancy complications and how their recognition and management can better support maternal and fetal health. Gestational diabetes mellitus or GDM, and pre eclampsia are among the most significant complications of pregnancy. GDM occurs when insulin resistance increases and the pancreas cannot compensate, resulting in high blood sugar, large for gestational age babies, birth injuries, and increased maternal and neonatal risks.
