In this talk, we turn our attention to biostatistics and clinical trials, including how it guides study design, randomization, data analysis, and regulatory decisions. We will discuss key concepts such as randomization methods, hypothesis testing, significance levels, and ways to address bias and uncertainty. The lecture will highlight the importance of proper statistical practices in ensuring the credibility, ethics, and scientific validity of trial results. Finally, we will examine how biostatistics influences regulatory approval and the translation of trial findings into medical practice. Today's lecture explores how biostatistics forms the foundation of modern clinical trials. Biostatistics is not just technical but a practical discipline that transforms uncertainty into evidence, shaping medical knowledge and practice. It enables the design of fair studies, the analysis of data, and informs regulatory decisions. Biostatistics ensures credibility, relevance, and ethics, building trust in outcomes from study design through analysis and interpretation. The core of a well designed clinical trial is randomization. By randomly assigning participants to treatment or control groups, researchers ensure that confounding factors are evenly distributed, balancing the groups and protecting against selection bias. The control group, whether placebo, standard care or alternative therapy is essential for fair comparison.
