Hello everyone, and welcome to this presentation on emotional intelligence and remote work. My name is Sandra Thompson and it's my absolute delight to talk to you today about emotions, emotional intelligence, and some of the psychology, the neuroscience, the behavioural science that I've learned over the last 18 months, and also to help connect remote work and emotional intelligence in this presentation.

What gives me the opportunity really to speak to you today? There are a few things that I'd like to share with you. The first thing is that I am now actually an emotional intelligence coach. There are around 35 of us across the world, and we've been especially trained by Dr. Goleman and his faculty. We've been through a coaching process, and we understand the science and the practical elements of what 'emotional intelligence' means. That's brilliant for this presentation because I'm hoping that some of the techniques I've been taught and I share with you, you might consider in order to develop your own EI. The second thing is that I've completed an academic paper on emotional intelligence and customer experience. That process of undertaking research over a five month period and presenting at an international conference, means that I have a wealth of knowledge and a number of things I want to share with you, especially about emotion and the changing knowledge we have from all of the neuroscience coming out from the States. The third thing is I have a master's degree in strategic communications, and in actual fact that enables me to understand far more about what remote work is, and how it functions quite differently to those organisations that are not established in the remote working culture. Finally, I'm a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. That's really a badge for the number of years that I've worked within that field, around 22. I just wanted to share that with you, it takes some time to get, and it certainly adds a number of special aspects to this emotional intelligence theme.
