                    Hello. My name is
John Palfreyman.

                    I'm currently working for

                    the University of
Leeds Business School,

                    where I'm associate professor
of digital transformation.

I also work in my own
consultancy organisation,

                    Palfreyman Ventures.

                    I'm going to talk
to you today about

                    the role that agile digital
transformation plays

                    in the innovation process.

                  0:24

                    I'm going to cover four
topics in my presentation,

                    shown on this overview slide.

                    I'm going to start
with the importance

                    of a strategic context

                    for any form of
technological change.

I'm then going to talk through

                    a systematic
incremental approach

                    to the digital
transformation challenge.

                    I'm going to talk
about how culture

                    and change play a
really important role

                    in digital transformation.

                    I'm finally going to
illustrate all of this

                    through recourse
to a case study.

                  0:54

                    Let's get started with
the strategic context.

                  0:60

                    It's really important
to get the order right.

                    Strategy must always come first.

If an organisation is not clear
what its strategic intent is,

                    or strategic vision,

                    it's unlikely that the digital
transformation process

                    will yield full results

                    and be as successful
as it can be.

                    Also, the choice of technology
always needs to be made

in the context of a clear,

                    well-thought-through digital
transformation approach.

                    Organisations often
get this wrong.

                    They choose technology for
many different reasons,

                    maybe thinking the competitors
are getting good value

                    from that technology,

                    and sometimes the organisation's
strategy isn't clear

                    when they embark
upon a major program

                    of technological change.

                    This is not recommended.

                    It's strongly recommended that

                    the organisation
gets the order right

                    before either starting on
digital transformation

                    or, indeed, choosing different
digital technologies to use.

                    Many different
authors have a view
