Hello, my name is Chris Flack.
I'm the Co-founder of
the behaviour change
consultancy UnPlug,
and I'm delighted to be here
today to talk to you about
digital wellbeing in
an always-on world.
If you find that you're
overloaded with your
emails, your notifications,
the amount of screens
you use, etc.,
then, this talk is for you.
0:24
I'd like to start with
a rhetorical question.
How would you feel if
I was to ask you to go
outside and smash your
smartphone on the floor?
Chances are right now that
you're either hating me or
feeling some light relief at
the idea of living
a phone-free life.
Take a few seconds
just to sit with
that emotion whether it's anger,
frustration,
happiness, or delight.
Maybe you feel like this guy
or maybe you love your phone.
The good news is I'm not
going to ask you to do that.
Instead, what I'm going
to do in this talk
is introduce human-centric
behaviour change
tools and techniques
to help you have
a better relationship with
your digital devices.
1:10
The reason I asked
that question was to
illustrate the relationship that
we have with our devices.
We love them for the freedom
and flexibility they give us,
but quite often we
get frustrated by
the power and control
they have over us.
If you struggle with picking up
your phone in social
situations, when
driving, or when in bed in
the middle of the night or in
any situation where you
haven't planned to,
then you're being
reactive in using
your devices and you're not
necessarily in control.
This talk is going
to help you to be
proactive in using your devices.
