Interviewer: Professor Soda, thank you very much for sparing the time to speak to me.
In this series of interviews with deans of business schools,
we're seeking to understand how the management and
the delivery of the objectives of the schools are being achieved.
So first of all,
just to provide some context,
I know you're a professor of organization theory,
design, and network analysis in addition to being dean.
Perhaps, you could give me a little bit of context
about how you came to be dean and your past career.
Prof. Soda: Yes. Thank you so much. So I started my career at Bocconi University.
There I got my PhD,
and then I went to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania for the postdoc.
Then, they offered for me to come back to
Bocconi and I started my career as assistant professor there.
In 2006, since my background is in the School of Management,
the staff of Bocconi School of Management,
they asked me to get in charge of what we call the Research Division.
What's essentially the unit responsible for all research projects of the school.
So that was my first,
let me say, administration role.
Then, I left the Research Division to be
the head of the Department of Management and Technology.
That was an election because this is the only role that at
Bocconi University comes from the votes of all professors affiliated to the department.
So they voted for me, so I left the position of being the head of the research,
