In this talk, the focus is Golgi apparatus, supported by coverage of the structure, organization, and polarity of the Golgi apparatus, focusing on how it processes and modifies proteins and lipids within its cis, medial and trans regions. We will discuss the importance of post translational modifications such as glycosylation and the critical role of the Trans golgi network in sorting and packaging cellular cargo. Additionally, we will explore the vesicular trafficking machinery responsible for transport to and from the golgi and examine how the Golgi supports secretion and cellular signaling, highlighting its significance in health and disease. The Golgi apparatus, first described by Camillo Golgi in the late 19th century, is essential in eukaryotic cells for processing, modifying, and trafficking proteins and lipids, composed of flattened membrane bound sacs called cisternae. The Golgi is organized into cis, medial and trans regions that reflect its functional polarity. Cargo enters at the cis face, is modified in the medial cisternae and exits from the transface to its destination. The golgi apparatus is crucial for post translational modification of proteins and lipids, especially glycosylation, which involves adding and processing carbohydrate groups. While glycosylation begins in the ER, most glycan elaboration trimming and diversification occur in the golgi via compartment specific enzymes. The golgi also performs other modifications
