Delivery note is a key document in the process of sending goods from a seller to a buyer. It acts as a record, confirming that the goods have been dispatched and lists the products included in a particular shipment. When packages or bulk shipments are delivered, the recipient is presented with a delivery note to cross check the items received against what was ordered. In the United Kingdom, this document may also be called a dispatch note. While in the United States, it is usually known simply as a delivery note. The delivery note ensures that all parties are clear about what has been supplied and helps to prevent disputes about missing or damaged goods. The main function of a delivery note is to verify that the right products have been delivered in the correct quantities. The recipient uses it as a checklist, and if there are discrepancies, such as missing excess or damaged goods, they are often noted on the document at the time of delivery. Typical information included on a delivery note comprises the senders and recipients details, the date of dispatch, a list of the items and their quantities, and often an order reference or purchase order number. It may notably exclude pricing information, distinguishing it from an invoice. Within business operations, a properly managed delivery note serves as proof of delivery and adds an important layer of accountability. The signed document can be used in case any shipment issues need resolving. Businesses frequently require that a signature is obtained upon receipt, confirming that the goods have arrived as agreed.
