Stephen Gillespie is the Sir James Black Professor of Medicine at the University of St. Andrews. He is the Chief Investigator of the first global regulatory study of a novel regimen to short treatment duration in tuberculosis. He is also Chief Investigator for the PanACEA consortium, the lead group researching... read morenew treatments for tuberculosis funded by the European Union. He also chairs the TB Drug Development Consortium UK funded by the MRC. His research encompasses tuberculosis drug development, biomarker development, respiratory diagnostics and the evolution of antibiotic resistance in respiratory pathogens. He collaborates with the Wellcome Trust Sanger Genome Campus in novel pathogen discovery. As the former London Regional Microbiologist for the Health Protection Agency he has strong links with the public health microbiology community notably in the area of pandemic influenza preparedness and respiratory diagnostics.
