for joining this talk on the
"Resilience of the Workforce
in the Digital Age"
and the case of online
labour markets.
My name is Fabian
Stephany and I'm
a social data scientist at
the University of Oxford.
At our department, the
Oxford Internet Institute,
we study how our individual and collective
behavior online shapes our political,
social and economic world.

This talk is about resilience
towards the big changes
in the way that
work is organized
and that our workplaces
are changing.
Two big trends behind
this change of how
work is organized on
digitalisation and remote work.
Digitalisation is
a process by which
tasks and certain units
of work are digitalized.
They are automated,
they are transferred
to the digital space and
can increasingly be managed with
digital technologies
via the Internet.
The second trend is remote work.
This is particularly,
since the beginning
of early 2020,
a trend that has
been accelerated
by the COVID-19 pandemic.
But it has been
with us before, in
larger companies employees were
allowed to work from
home more frequently,
in particular when
they had to juggle
between tasks within the family,
taking care of kids or taking
care of other family members.
These two trends they go
hand in hand and they change
the way that we work
and the way that
work is organized fundamentally.
