Hi, everyone. I'm Josh Morton. I'm an associate professor of strategy and technology at Leeds University Business School, at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. Today, I'll be introducing the exciting and dynamic topic of digital innovation. This talk serves as an introduction to a series dedicated to exploring how digital innovation is transforming the way that organisations operate, innovate, and also, compete in today's fast-paced digital landscape. I'll uncover why digital innovation is important and enables organisations to not only adapt to change, but to thrive with it. This sets the stage for a series of talks that will further explore the facets of this topic, both relating to human and technological factors and their role and relevance in digital innovation processes.

Here is the agenda for the talk today. I'll start by walking through the key meaning of digital innovation, before moving on to why it's important. I'll then discuss some current trends as key examples that drive digital innovation, with some interesting industry examples. Specifically, I'll talk about artificial intelligence and machine learning, blockchain technology, the Internet of Things and big data, and then also, virtual reality and the metaverse. Towards the end of the talk, I'll present an illustrative framework for digital innovation. I've designed this simple framework to act as a blueprint to emphasise the critical role of human and technological factors in relation to digital innovation. I'll discuss the importance of these dimensions in this talk, as I introduce a range of relevant examples from different organisations. I'll then offer some brief concluding remarks, which encompass three important lessons that all organisations and managers should keep in mind about digital innovation.
