Hello. My name is Steve O'Connor. I'm an experienced CEO of mostly not-for-profit companies and organisations. My focus has been on the structuring of the organisation for flexibility, strategic knowing, and resilience. This is for the whole organisation from the bottom up. This topic for me is a fascinating journey in how to understand the challenges facing us now. It also determines how one needs to prepare and to confront for the future. Having said that, the future is unknowable, but its elements can be recognised and understood. Failure to understand these elements will limit the thinking affecting your own organisation. So, let's get started.

Every evening we sleep in the expectation that there is a strong possibility that there will be a tomorrow. Too often, probability melts into certainty, while very little now work and professional lives is truly certain. Tomorrow is another challenge. For many this may not happen in a peaceful or violent circumstances. Organisationally, we are too tempted to let things go as they are. Don't rock the boat, keep all the troops happy and contented. Can you recall how you felt when you saw the Twin Towers fall into Manhattan with people plunging to their deaths far below? Did you in the beginning or even now understand what the pandemic was, is, or will be? We cannot always predict these big things, but we need to teach ourselves to be open for them.
