Hello. Welcome to this "Overview of Online Learning in Business Education". My name is Maebh Coleman and I work at the School of Marketing in Technological University Dublin or TU Dublin. I've been working for several years in the area of e-learning, constructing curriculums, designing programs and modules, and educating thousands of students through the online medium.

As for the purpose and introduction of my presentation today, the things I'm going to go through are a little about the meaning of the terms we use online education, and business education, and to recap overlook how far we've come. I also want to speak about technology adoption in business education because this is a key thing when it comes to designing and integrating online learning with business education. I will provide you with some examples from my own career from three different universities, and from current practices in industry that may be helpful in designing programs and modules for you. I also want to point out where I feel the magic lies in online education, which is simply in design for me.

So what do we mean by online learning and business education? Online learning can take many, many forms. You can watch a TED Talk online, and learn a lot from that. You could be looking at various different web pages and take in a lot of information, and be able to apply it within a business context online learning-wise. In terms of business education, the way we learn doesn't have to be as formal as you might assume. This can take the form of on the job training, and it can take the form of the wisdom and experience of your peers, of your superiors, and that you gain over time from doing your job. But the difference between these forms of learning and what we consider to be online learning in business education is accreditation. When we talk about that within an university environment, the extra design an organizational processes within the business faculty and within the higher education institutes, adds value through assessments, and this is a key difference between the way that we learn online in our normal jobs, and the way that we learn online with a higher education institution. The learning doesn't stop once we stop in our online virtual classrooms, or online learning activities. It goes on and it's useful for online learning in business education to remember this point and to integrate it into our design frameworks.
