Prof. Gholson Lyon Utah Foundation for Biomedical Research, USA2 Talks
Dr. Gholson Lyon, M.D., Ph.D., is a board certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. Dr. Lyon is also the officer, founding board member and director of Neuropsychiatric Genetics for the Utah Foundation for Biomedical Research. Dr. Lyon completed his undergraduate education at Dartmouth College, where he studied biochemistry and molecular biology.... read moreHe received an MPhil in genetics from the University of Cambridge, England and a PhD in pharmacology and peptide chemistry at Rockefeller University. He received his MD from Weill Cornell Medical College, followed by adult psychiatry training at the New York State Psychiatric Institute/New York Presbyterian Hospital – Columbia. It was during residency that he became interested in the genetic and pathophysiological basis of many neuropsychiatric disorders, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Tourette Syndrome (TS), schizophrenia and autism. Dr. Lyon subsequently undertook child and adolescent residency at the NYU Child Study Center, during which time he became interested in clinical trials and treatment development for TS, OCD and ADHD. He trained with Dr. Barbara Coffey at NYU, an internationally-recognized specialist in Tourette Syndrome. Furthermore, Dr. Lyon is a leading medical research doctor in the field of Genetic Sequencing being credited with discovering Ogden Syndrome. He is currently a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Neuropsychiatric Association, the New York Academy of Sciences, the New York Academy of Medicine, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has published in the areas of biochemistry, pharmacology, and molecular biology.
