Hello, and thank
you for joining me.
My name is Jane Crofts,
and I lead an organization
called Data to the People.
In this talk, we're going to
be discussing data literacy,
but before we jump
into the what and how
of data literacy,
I'd like to pause,
take a step back,
and really think about why.
0:25
Data is atomic.
It is the omnipresent
trail of microdust
that we leave behind in
every action we take
and those we don't.
It's the core of
every transaction,
and the residue of
every interaction.
The creation, sharing,
and usage of data
is seamlessly woven
into every single one
of our day-to-day activities.
Data is increasingly
shaping everything we see,
do, think, and buy.
Across the world, we're
watching organizations race
to see who can use data best
to drastically overhaul
operations and processes,
unlocking massive savings
and efficiencies,
better understanding
their customers.
We're seeing entirely new
business functions emerge.
Our best and brightest
have been tasked with
creating new products,
new customer experiences,
which lead to greater attention
and deeper product adoption.
1:23
Imagine the technological
advances we will see,
and have seen:
data-driven processes,
experiences, and decisions.
Data at the core of
everything we do.
Imagine how powerful
this will be.
I'm not even sure
we're capable of
imagining the
possibilities before us.
What an exciting
time to be alive.
Seriously, we are on the cusp
of an industrial revolution,
the scale, speed, and impact
of which has never been
experienced before.
The World Economic
Forum tells us that
no industry is immune and
no country is exempt.
How lucky are we to be standing
at the doorstep of this time
of unprecedented opportunity,
but also what a burden to bear.
The fate of our communities
and our organizations
tied to our ability to
harness these advancements.
The winners in this
wondrous new world
will be those who have the
tools, resources, and skills
to unlock these
magnificent riches.
They are the ones who
have found the key
to the greatest time
in our history.
Data is the common thread
that locks human technology
and opportunity together
in this new world
of possibility.
Data literacy is key to
unlocking this new world.
Data literacy is the
universal language
