I want to talk
about searching for
literature in unfamiliar fields.
From the point of view of
a business need, searching
as a practitioner.
I'm a lecturer at the
University of Brighton,
Pericles Asher Rospigliosi,
and I teach in the School
of Business and Law.
My expertise and my interest
is in the fields of e-commerce,
digital marketing, and
the digital economy.
Or more generally, how
the Internet impacts
on education, society,
and business.

I want to cover why
academic literature is
something of importance
and interest to those
outside of the world
of universities,
in the world of
business and applied
application and use of ideas.
So I'm going to think a little
bit about the difference
between academic
literature as it's used by
academics in what's often
called the literature
review and how might
be used by practitioners
trying to make use
of this resource.
Then I'm going to take
us through a process
for searching for
the literature,
trying to identify
in a pragmatic way,
a top ten that might be useful
in a particular context.
Some steps to help you
bypass the breadth
and depth of academic
literature and
instead find useful results.
I'm going to finish
by looking at
a practical tool for searching
for academic literature,
Google Scholar, with
some points on how to
use it and how to get
the most from it.
