Prof. Kuan-Teh Jeang1 Talk
Kuan-Teh Jeang was chief of the Molecular Virology Section of the NIAID Laboratory of Molecular Microbiology, and editor-in-chief of the journal Retrovirology, as well as serving as an editor at Cell and Bioscience and an associate editor of Cancer Research. He was born in 1958 in Taiwan, spent his early childhood in Libya, and arrived in the United States in 1970. He attended MIT for his undergraduate university education and then went to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine finishing MD and PhD degrees in 1984. The following year Prof Jeang joined the NIH, where he worked for 27 years. Prof. Jeang co-authored over 300 publications and edited 6 books. From 2010 to 2011, he served as president of the Society of Chinese Bioscientists in America, where he sought greater representation in leadership positions for Asian-American scientists. He was also greatly admired as a brilliant mentor to many young scientists. His research interests focused on the gene regulation of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) and the human T-cell leukemia virus (HTLV-I) and how these two viruses cause human diseases.
