Michael Sofroniew, M.D., PhD., is a Distinguished Professor of Neurobiology at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He received an M.D. from Ludwigs-Maximillians University in Munich and a Ph.D. (D.Phil.) from Oxford University. After a surgical internship at Johns-Hopkins University he pursued a full-time research career first as a faculty member at Cambridge University and then at UCLA.
