Biography

Giuseppe Poli graduated in Medicine in 1973 and obtained his specialization diploma in General Pathology at Torino University in 1976 and PhD in Biochemistry at Brunel University of West London, UK, in 1988. His research interest has consistently focused on the role of oxidative stress and in particular of lipid oxidation products (4-hydroxynonenal, cholesterol oxidation products) in physiology (aging, antiviral defense), pathophysiology (inflammation) and pathology (atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease and carcinogenesis). Other titles and honors are: honorary degree Doctor Universitatis at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1995; Lifetime Achievement Awards by Oxygen Club of California in 2005, by International HNE Club-ISFRR Group of interest in 2010, by SFRR Europe in 2014. Copernicus Medal of the University of Ferrara in 2014, Oxygen Club of California, Health Science Prize and Medal in 2015.
