Dr Carole Sargent read Biochemistry at St. Peter's College, University of Oxford, where she also completed her D.Phil "Mapping the Human MHC Class II Region" within the MRC Immunochemistry Unit. This experience resulted in a life-long interest in the genome and molecular genetics. Dr Sargent's initial post-doctoral research at Cambridge... read morefocussed on the structure, gene content, and evolution of the human X and Y chromosomes within the contexts of sex reversal and X-linked disorders. For a period between 1998 and 2006 she also worked with the Pig Improvement Company, applying the techniques of modern genomics and transcriptomics to projects centred on animal health and resilience to pathogenic infections. Dr Sargent now divides her time between the Department of Pathology at the University of Cambridge, and Hughes Hall, where she is one of the Deputy Senior Tutors who are responsible for student academic progression and welfare.
