Nicolas G. Bazan, M.D., Ph.D., has been called “a true renaissance man”: research scientist, teacher, mentor, innovator, inventor, community leader, author, screenplay co-writer/executive movie producer, patron of the arts, and entrepreneur. Villere Chair for Research in Retinal Degeneration, a Foreign Adjunct Professor of Neuroscience (Karolinska Institutet), and has been appointed a Boyd Professor – the highest academic rank in the LSU System.

He has an h-index of 95 and his work has been cited >34,000 times (per Google Scholar metrics, August, 2019). He has discovered cellular and molecular principles, revealing novel pro-homeostatic mediators relevant to counteract onset/early stages and progression of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, experimental stroke, experimental epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury, and age-related macular degeneration.
