From 2002-2008 assistant professor at the Dept. for Ethics and History of Medicine at the University of Göttingen, Germany. Habilitation for medical ethics and theory of medicine in 2008. 2008-11 scientific co-ordinator of the EU-project Tiss.EU on genetic research with human cells and tissue, especially in biobanks. From 2002 until 2011 member of the research ethics committee (REC) at the University Medical Center Göttingen, 2010-11 Deputy Chair. Appointment as associate professor at Ulm University in 2016.

His research interests comprise issues from medical ethics (enhancement, research ethics, research ethics committees), technology assessment (ethical, legal, and social implications) and philosophy (justice, theory of science).
