1 TalkBiography
Dr. Hendershot received her PhD in molecular cell biology from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, USA, in 1983 in the regulation of immunoglobulin synthesis. During her post-doctoral studies, aided by new monoclonal antibody technology, she characterized the first molecular chaperone of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), BiP. She started her independent... read moregroup at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 1987, where her group uses biochemical, cell-based, and animal studies to understand basic mechanisms governing ER quality control of secretory pathway protein biosynthesis and cellular responses to developmental and disease-associated conditions where chaperone systems are in high demand or compromised. She serves on several editorial and scientific advisory boards and has received a number teaching and mentoring awards.
