Biography

Matthew Whitby obtained a BSc in biological sciences from the University of Exeter in 1989 and a PhD in genetics from the University of Nottingham in 1993. After three years of postdoctoral experience at the University of Nottingham he won a MRC Career Development Award to pursue his independent research... read moreon genetic recombination at the University of Oxford. In 1999 he was awarded a Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellowship in Basic Biomedical Research to continue his work at Oxford. Current research interests of Matthew's lab include: 1) Deciphering the mechanisms that govern crossing over during homologous recombination both in vegetative and meiotic cells, and 2) Understanding the interplay between recombination and DNA replication at different types of blocked and broken replication forks.
