Intelligent pharmaceutical technologies: transforming drug delivery, manufacturing and personalised healthcare
6:00 PM PDT / 9:00 PM EDT / 1:00 AM GMT / 2:00 AM CET
The merging of advanced drug delivery systems, biofabrication, microfluidics, and artificial intelligence is reshaping the future of pharmaceutical sciences. These emerging technologies enable the development of more precise, patient-centred therapies while transforming how medicines are designed, manufactured, and delivered. This webinar explores the evolution of intelligent pharmaceutical technologies and their growing impact on the healthcare landscape. Key topics include advanced drug delivery systems, microfluidic platforms for formulation development, biofabrication and 3D printing of medicines and medical devices, AI-driven pharmaceutical research, and integration of smart manufacturing approaches. In this webinar, Professor Lamprou will highlight how these technologies can accelerate the translation from laboratory discovery to clinical application while supporting the development of personalised and precision medicines. Through examples from academia and industry, he will discuss opportunities, challenges, and future directions for creating more adaptive, efficient, and patient-focused healthcare solutions. This presentation will provide a strategic overview of how intelligent pharmaceutical technologies are expected to influence the next generation of medicines and healthcare delivery.
Speaker
Professor Dimitrios A. Lamprou (PhD, MBA) is Chair of Biofabrication and Advanced Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Director of Internationalisation at the School of Pharmacy, Queen’s University Belfast. He also serves as Chair of the UK and Ireland Controlled Release Society. Working at the intersection of pharmaceutical science, engineering and medicine, his research explores how intelligent and emerging technologies can transform the way medicines are designed, manufactured and delivered. His work spans advanced drug delivery systems, biofabrication, 3D printing, microfluidics, artificial intelligence and personalised healthcare, with a strong emphasis on translating innovation from the laboratory into practical healthcare solutions. Through interdisciplinary collaborations with industry, healthcare organisations and academic partners worldwide, he develops next-generation pharmaceutical technologies designed to enable more precise, adaptable and patient-centred therapies. His work aims to bridge cutting-edge research and real-world application, supporting advances in pharmaceutical manufacturing, improved healthcare outcomes and wider societal and economic impact.
