Why are we talking about
sustainability today?
Our hotel operations are
evolving in an ever
changing environment.
This environment has been
strongly influenced by
a sustainability agenda by
many of our stakeholders.
To start with, we are
operating our hotel
in a legal framework
that keeps putting
more pressure on the actions
and the reporting about
our actions that we are
undertaking on sustainability.
A second major trend has
to do with our investors.
Financial institutions
are expecting
more and more transparency
about environmental, social
and governance practices
by their investees.
This is directly influencing
hospitality professionals.
As hospitality professionals
we are operating
our properties in a
society that is becoming
more and more aware of
the environmental and
social challenges
that we are facing and that
the next generations
may face in the future.
This is also translated
into the practices of
our suppliers whether for
food or materials and equipment.
Our suppliers are
themselves moving
towards new practices that
are taking better care
of our planet and they
are looking for partners
to work with who are
sharing these practices
and these values.
Last but not least,
hospitality is part of
the broader tourism
and travel industry,
which itself is being
influenced by all of
these different trends,
or are expecting new services,
new offers and new experiences
when they are traveling.
They are also changing
the way they are
traveling and the
transportations they are
ready to use to go to
their vacation or
business destination.
Last but not least,
it's important to
remember that we are
operating our hotels
in an environment that is to say
our planet that has
limited resources.
These limited
resources need us to
be more mindful about
the way we are making
business decisions.
