Hello. My name is Dr. Christina
Quinlan and I work at
the Graduate Business School at
the Technological
University of Dublin.
In this presentation,
I'm going to
talk to you about completing
the research project,
drawing conclusions, and
making recommendations.
0:19
The final chapter, drawing
conclusions and making
recommendations.
In the final chapter of the
thesis or dissertation,
or in the final section
of the research report,
the researcher presents
the conclusions and
recommendations of
the research project.
0:38
Conclusions in research.
A conclusion is essentially a
judgment, a final decision.
At the end of the
research process,
the researcher comes
to a final conclusion,
or perhaps several final
conclusions about the research.
The final conclusion,
the final decision,
or final judgment that the
researcher makes will relate
to or respond to, the research
statement or question.
It will relate to
the overall aim of
the research project.
In this final phase of
the research project,
the researcher conceptualises
the overall conclusion
of the research project.
This overall conclusion must
emerge logically and with
validity from the findings that
emerged from the analysis
of the data gathered.
1:32
The overall conclusion
and main conclusions.
The overall conclusion that
the researcher draws from
the research is presented
at the start of
the final chapter,
that is the chapter on
conclusions and recommendations.
The overall conclusion that
the researcher comes to,
with regard to the research,
is a response to
the research statement or
the research question,
a response to the overall
aim of the research.
It is the final
accomplishment of
the overall aim of
the research project.
The overall conclusion from
the research project is
presented at the start
of the final chapter,
and then it is
thoroughly discussed
and explained in the chapter.
Then the researcher presents
a number of main conclusions,
all drawn from the
overall conclusion.
Each of these main
conclusions is
presented and discussed
and theorised.
