Communication is central to any successful change initiative. Far from being a soft function, communication is a crucial management skill shaping how people understand, accept, and implement change. During times of transition, individuals rely on communication to make sense of events and theiripact. Managers must act as curators and translators, delivering key messages so they are relevant and clear to stakeholders. Effective communication reduces uncertainty, clarifies purpose, and builds trust and engagement throughout the change journey. While many believe they communicate clearly, research shows misunderstanding is common, especially during organizational change. Barriers like unclear language, differing perspectives, emotional tension, power gaps, and cultural differences can stall or derail initiatives. Leaders must convey messages, check understanding, encourage feedback, and provide clarification as needed. Active listening, repeated messaging, tailored communication, and engaging managers at all levels, all strengthen communication, ensuring consistency and credibility. Choosing how to communicate is as important as what you communicate. Major changes, which are complex and non routine require richer media such as face to face dialogue, video calls, or interactive town halls, because these support feedback and emotional connection.
