Hello. My name is Susan Raines, and I'm going to work with you over the next 10 talks, teaching you about international business negotiation and conflict management. That would mean with your team, with other organizations, with regulators, and then international business negotiation both at the governmental level, but also trade, etc., business as we traditionally see it.

A little bit about me. I began my work as a mediator and facilitator working on international environmental treaties and negotiations. Then became a professor of conflict management at Kennesaw State University, which is outside of Atlanta, one of the largest graduate programs in conflict management in the United States. I ran the master's program for many years, and trained graduate students to go out into the world to be negotiators, business owners, managers, ombudsmen, other kinds of work in the negotiation space. I have a consulting company that works primarily with international organizations who have experienced or seek to avoid experiencing conflicts such as that does brand damage, scandals, etc. So I work with a lot of organizations seeking to make sure that they have tight corporate cultures and negotiate effectively around issues of ethics within and between organizations. Enough about me, we're going to dive in and talk about some of the basics we want to start with here. What is negotiation in business? What is conflict resolution in business or conflict prevention in business? Because every negotiation has the potential for conflict.
