Dr. Smith is the Professor of Industrial Hygiene and Director of the Industrial Hygiene training program. He received his MPH and PhD from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Smith's research group is exploring the relationship between exposures to toxic chemicals and internal dose and more broadly to health hazards. He... read moreis leading the exposure assessment for a large study of workers in the US trucking industry to assess the quantitative relationship between diesel exposures and lung cancer. He is also directing laboratory studies to better understand how humans take up and metabolize butadiene into epoxide metabolites. Dr. Smith is currently developing strategies for estimating internal dose for epidemiologic studies using toxicokinetic models.
