In 2001 Dr. Morgenstern became Professor of Biochemical Toxicology at the Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet. The major focus of Prof. Morgenstern's research is the study of the structure, mechanism and function of microsomal glutathione transferase also in relation to reactive intermediates formed during drug metabolism and protection from cytostatic drugs. A close relative to microsomal glutathione transferase, prostaglandin E synthase, was discovered in 1999 and is studied in a collaborative project.
