Iart Luca Shytaj obtained his PhD in Infectious Diseases working at the Italian Institute of Health in Rome, where he contributed to establishing a macaque model to study SIV persistence under antiretroviral therapy. Some of the therapeutic strategies derived from his work advanced to a clinical trial held in São Paulo, Brazil, where he worked as a Visiting Professor. In 2022, he established his research group at the University of Bristol. His laboratory focuses on understanding how viral infections reshape cellular metabolism and on developing pharmacological strategies to target these alterations.
