Biography

Iart Luca Shytaj obtained his PhD in Infectious Diseases working at the Italian Institute of Health in Rome, where he contributed to establishing a macaque model to study SIV persistence under antiretroviral therapy. During his postdoctoral work at Heidelberg University Hospital in Germany, he investigated how redox and iron metabolism... read moreinfluence the development and maintenance of HIV latency. Some of the therapeutic strategies derived from his work advanced to a clinical trial held in São Paulo, Brazil, where he worked as a Visiting Professor. In 2022, he established his research group at the University of Bristol. His laboratory focuses on understanding how viral infections reshape cellular metabolism and on developing pharmacological strategies to target these alterations.
