Biography

Albert Stunkard, MD, was a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he served for 11 years as the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and founded the Weight and Eating Disorders Program. He completed his undergraduate studies at Yale, and then his medical degree... read moreat Columbia, before serving as an Army Physician. He was a pioneer in eating-disorder research, and proved that some people are genetically predisposed to obesity. He was also the first to indentify binge-eating as a disorder, and to link obesity to socioeconomic factors. He passed away on July 12th 2014. His is survived by his wife, stepdaughter and grandchildren.
