Biography

Dr. Hubbard received his PhD in Applied Physics in 1987 from Stanford University under Drs. Sebastian Doniach and Keith Hodgson. His dissertation research focused on the calcium-induced conformational changes in troponin-C as monitored by small-angle X-ray scattering. To gain further expertise in structural biology, Dr. Hubbard joined Dr. Wayne Hendrickson's... read morelaboratory at Columbia University for postdoctoral studies in X-ray crystallography, where he elucidated the crystal structure of the tyrosine kinase domain of the insulin receptor. In 1995, Dr. Hubbard joined the faculty at the Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine, New York University School of Medicine, and is currently Associate Professor of Pharmacology. Dr. Hubbard has continued to study the structural and mechanistic aspects of insulin receptor signalling, in particular, the mechanisms by which adapter proteins are specifically recruited to the activated receptor. In addition, he has been studying the structure and activation mechanisms of other receptor tyrosine kinases, such as fibroblast growth factor receptor, insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor and muscle-specific kinase (MuSK).
